Robby Cress, author of the blog "Dear Old Hollywood," has done us a service by scouting out the locations of some of the most memorable scenes of EWWBL.
Cress informs us that the Corner Cottage is located at 310 South Victory Boulevard in Burbank, California. Philo and Clyde sit at this red light when a couple of the Black Widows pull up and start making fun of Clyde. Things get out of control when one of the bikers throws a lit cigar and hits Clyde. Then Philo chases them to what appears to be an improvised loading dock where immigrant workers load produce onto a train.
Wow, although I recognize the place, I have to admit, that's a little obscure. I thought it was going to actually be the "you want to eat, take a seat" place. I think that EWWBL is the only movie in history to have a diner-clearing fight. Genius, I say. My thanks to Robby Cress for his excellent work.
ReplyDeleteThis brings back great memories. I loved the "you want to eat, take a seat" line, although the "you want to talk, take a walk" follow-up was awesome too. Although both lines were dwarfed when Cholla ended the mele with "Spread out!" The thing I need to know now is what happened to Lester in real life after his great scene ended??
ReplyDeleteInteresting that seconds later they appear to be 12 miles away crossing Woodley at the Park Lane here:

At the risk of seeming obsessive, I found Sybils:
